The purpose of this Privacy Policy (hereinafter “the Policy”) is to explain to visitors to the academy.euronews.com site (hereinafter “the Site”) how Euronews processes their Personal Data to provide the Services when they use the Site.

Visitors to the Site should read this Policy carefully before browsing the Site. By reading this Policy that is part of the Terms and Conditions, you are fully informed and aware on the Processing of your Personal Data and you knowingly Consent to their use. This Privacy Policy may be updated at any time, in particular depending on the implementation of new Services for Euronews Academy or the evolution of the applicable laws. We encourage you to consult it regularly. In the event of any conflict between the current version of this Policy and any previous version(s), the provisions current and in effect shall prevail unless it is expressly stated otherwise.

The company Euronews SA, with its principal place of business at 56 quai Rambaud, 69002 Lyon, is the Data Controller of your Personal Data processed when you use the Site. Euronews has appointed a DPO (Data protection officer) that we can contact at Dataprotection@euronews.com for any question related to Personal Data Processing.

1. Definitions 

In this Policy the following terms shall have the following meanings:

Consent of the Data Subject means any freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the Data Subject's wishes by which he or she, by a statement or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the Processing of Personal Data relating to him or her;
Data Controller means the natural or legal person who, alone or jointly with others (in which case this other person is the joint Data Controller) determines the purposes and means of the Processing;
Data Processor means the natural or legal person who processes Personal Data on behalf of the Data Controller;
Data Protection Law means in particular Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the Processing of Personal Data and on the free movement of such Data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (“GDPR”), the French law no 78-17 du 6 janvier 1978 (« law informatique et libertés ») and Directive 2002/58/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2002 concerning the Processing of Personal Data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector (“ePrivacy Directive”);
Data Subject means any person whose Personal Data are processed;
International Transfer means a transfer of Personal Data outside the European Economic Area made up of the member countries of the European Union and Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland or to an organization international;
Processing (of Personal Data) means any operation carried out on your Personal Data such as the collection, access, modification, consultation of your Data;
Personal Data or Data means any information relating to a natural person either identified or identifiable directly or indirectly, in particular using other identifying Data;
SubProcessor means any person appointed by or on behalf of Data Processor to process Personal Data on behalf of the Data Controller;
Services means collectively any online facilities, tools, services or information that Euronews makes available through the Site either now or in the future.

2. 2. Which Personal Data do we process? Why and how do we process your Personal Data? How long do we store your Data?

Euronews carries out most of the Processing of your Data as Data Controller. However, some Services may involve the Processing of your Data by third parties such as our Data Processors.

Euronews may need to process your Personal Data in the context of various Processing operations. Euronews has defined purposes in order to justify each Processing of your Personal Data. This includes allowing you to sign up for accessing our courses or for receiving our Communications.

In order to provide you with the Services offered on the Site, Euronews may process Personal Data concerning your activity on the Site in particular, such as browsing Data or registration Data. This may be Data that you have directly communicated, in particular in the context of your registration, or Data that you have not directly communicated and which are collected automatically according to your browsing.

The provision of your Personal Data is most often mandatory to enable us to achieve the purposes for which they are processed. When Data is optional, we specify it to you.

Your Personal Data is kept for the time necessary to achieve the purposes for which it is processed. The retention period of your Personal Data may depend on the type of Personal Data processed, the purposes of the Processing, our legitimate interest, the exercise or not of your rights as Data Subjects or even certain legal provisions requiring us to keep them. Once the retention period has expired or your right to withdrawal, erasure or object has been exercised, your Personal Data is deleted. In some cases, they may be anonymized, which irreversibly prevents any re-identification of the Data Subjects and thus no longer constitutes Personal Data within the meaning of the GDPR.
For each Processing purpose, Euronews has determined a legal basis in order to justify the Processing of your Personal Data.

Measures of the audience of the Site and statistics of this audience measures

 Euronews may measure the audience of the Site by using Personal Data obtained through cookies or other trackers dropped on your device.
Such Personal Data allow us, in particular, to improve our Services, to measure the number of viewed pages, the number of visits on the Site, your activity and the frequency of your visits. All the results from such measurements are anonymized and cannot allow us or anybody else to re identify you directly. For more information, please consult our Cookie Policy.
Legitimate interest

Euronews has a legitimate interest in compiling statistics on the use of the Site and in measuring its audience in order to understand how you interact with the Site, to evaluate performance of the Site and improve the Services. This interest is necessary to maintain the Services offered by the Site. This purpose does not affect the interests and rights and freedoms of personal and does not go beyond what the Data Subjects can reasonably expect from an online course site.
IP address, operating system, device name, type of web browser and other browsing data Personal Data can be extracted on an excel file for statistical purposes. Personal Data are aggregated and anonymized to perform the statistical purposes.

Euronews has a legitimate interest in compiling statistics on course monitoring in order to measure their success and improve the content if necessary. This interest is necessary to maintain the Services offered by the Site.

Euronews has a legitimate interest in collecting feedback from Users on a course they attended in order to assess the performance and interest of the course in question, and therefore to improve the Site's services. This purpose does not affect the interests and rights and freedoms of personal and does not go beyond what the Data Subjects can reasonably expect from an online course site.
Responses to the feedback form Feedback is aggregated for statistical purposes and is not associated with other Personal Data. They are kept for the time necessary to analyze your feedback.

3. Who has access to your Personal Data and to whom is it disclosed? 

Your Personal Data can be accessed by our internal services in charge of the management of the Services. In order to achieve the purposes for which Processing is put in place, and therefore provide you with our Services, Euronews must sometimes use service providers and share your Personal Data with them. These service providers, called Data Processors, may be located within the European Economic Area or outside. Euronews signs a Personal Data protection agreement with each of its Data Processors to ensure the security of your Personal Data.

So far, Euronews does not share your Personal Data with Data Processor located outside the Euronews Economic Area or for which the activity is carried out outside the Euronews Economic Area. However, if Euronews has to do it, and that the Data Processor or its activity is not located in a country which is subject to an adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission, Euronews will implement appropriate measures such as the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission in order to ensure an adequate level of protection of your transferred Data. uronews uses a service provider that hosts the Site and allows to provide you the Service to which you register. It is a Data Processor. Euronews and this Data Processor have signed a Data protection agreement to guarantee a Processing of your Personal Data that complies with the Data Protection Laws. This Data Processor is established within Cyprus, within the European Economic Area and is therefore subject to the GDPR. Please note that our service provider can process your Personal Data on its own behalf, on the one hand to improve and enhance its services and for other development, diagnostic and corrective purposes in connection with its services and on the hother hand to disclose your Personal Data solely in aggregate or other de-identified form in connection with its business. In such a case, LearnWorlds is a Data Controller and remains fully liable regarding its compliance with Data Protection Law.

Euronews also uses a Data Processor that provide thematic language courses and that is located in France and is therefore subject to the GDPR.

4. What are your rights? 

As a Data Subject, you have rights specifically defined in the Data Protection Laws in relation to your Personal Data that we process.Your rights depend on the legal basis for each Processing purpose.

Right of access: you have the right to access the Personal Data we hold about you at any time. We can communicate to you the categories of Data, the purposes of Processing, the retention period or the criteria used to determine it, and the recipients of your Data. To do so, you can navigate on your Profile Page -> Edit -> Privacy Settings -> Advanced Privacy Settings and request for your Data report. For any question, you can contact us.

Right of rectification: if you notice or believe that we hold inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data, you have the right to ask us to modify them.

Right to erasure: you can request the erasure of your Data as soon as they are no longer necessary with regard to the purposes of the Processing for which they were processed, that you withdraw your Consent when the latter is the legal basis of the Processing, that your Personal Data has been unlawfully processed, that you oppose the Processing of your Data when the latter is based on a legitimate interest.

You can request to have your Data erased by navigating on your Profile Page -> Edit -> Privacy Settings -> Advanced Privacy Settings.


You can also delete your account. This deletion will make your Personal Data permanently deleted and your history on the Site will be anonymized.

Please note that your right to erasure will be limited in the following cases:

- to exercise the right of freedom of expression and information

- to comply with a legal obligation;

- for archiving purposes in the public interest, for scientific or historical research purposes or for statistical purposes

- for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.


Right to restriction of Processing: you can request the limitation of the Processing of your Data if:

- you dispute the accuracy of your Data, for the time necessary for us to verify its accuracy,

- the Processing is unlawful and you request the limitation of the Processing rather than the erasure of your Data,

- we no longer need your Data for the purposes of the Processing, but you request them to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, or

- you object to the Processing, while we verify whether our legitimate reasons prevail over yours.

We can then anonymized your Data by replacing it with an anonymous ID number.

Right to portability: You have the right to receive your Data that you have provided to us and, if technically feasible, to request that we transmit your Data (that you have provided to us) to another organization, if:

- we process your Data by automated means

- we base the Processing of your Data on your Consent, or our Processing of your Data is necessary for the performance or fulfillment of a contract to which you have subscribed

- your Data is communicated to us by you and

- your right to portability does not negatively affect the rights and freedoms of others.

You have the right to receive your Data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.


Right to object
: you can object – at any time – to the Processing of your Data for reasons relating to your particular situation, when this Processing is based on our legitimate interest or that of a third party, except in the event of a legitimate and imperative reason overriding your interests or for the exercise or defense of legal claims.

Direct marketing: Our Communications aim at informing you about current and upcoming courses, promotion, content marketing (e.g. interviews with trainers, users’ testimonials) etc. You can Consent to receive Direct Marketing from us on the Sign in Form, by checking the appropriate box, or by using the email grabbers titled “Stay tuned”. If you receive direct marketing (our “Communications”) by having consented to this Processing, you can withdraw your Consent at any time by navigating to your Profile Page -> Edit -> Privacy settings, or by sending us an email or by clicking on the link provided for this purpose at the bottom of the communication sent. If you receive direct marketing from us when you have not given your explicit Consent, we do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in accordance with article 13 of the ePrivacy Directive. In this case, you have the right to object at any time, for whatever reason, to the Processing of your Data for this purpose.

You also have the right to define directives relating to the fate of your Personal Data after your death (conservation, deletion, communication to a third party). In such a case, these directives will be carried out at the request of the person responsible for their execution.

In accordance with Data Protection Laws, we have one month to respond to your request. In some cases, this period may be extended for reasons related to the complexity of your request. We will inform you in any case within one month.
